Now that our province has seen its first case of COVID-19, we feel it necessary to address any concerns regarding the matter with regards to floating and to our centre. This situation is something that we are taking seriously and are monitoring closely.
Our doors will remain open as we focus on providing individual experiences and feel that avoiding large groups is certainly not a problem here.
First, you should not be worried about contracting viruses including Covid-19 in float tank water for a number of reasons beyond our rigorous sanitation routine.
inside our tanks...
- Epsom Salt is naturally antimicrobial. With nearly 1000lbs of salt in each tank, bacteria and viruses cannot grow or even sustain themselves
- Our tanks have a number of additional features in place to ensure clean water:
- Bag and cartridge filters – Hair baskets and a 1 micron cartridge filter strip any larger particles out of the water
- A UV light filter – UV light rays penetrate any harmful pathogens they contact in water and destroy any illness-causing microorganisms by attacking their genetic core (DNA/RNA)
- Ozone – Ozone is one of the most efficient disinfection treatments on the market while requiring very little contact time
- Hydrogen Peroxide – A more natural approach to sanitation than chlorine, Hydrogen peroxide acts as an oxidizer in the aquatic environment, burning off organic material and improving clarity.
- Natural Spa Enzymes – Natural spa enzymes break down body oils, lotions and other suspended solids – the very things unwanted that bacteria feed, grow, and multiply on.
- The filtration system in our tanks run non-stop whenever our tanks are vacant; 24 hours per day, 7 days per week
- Our tank filtration systems are incredibly efficient and circulate the contents of each tank a minimum of 3 complete cycles between clients

Nonetheless, let’s all use some common sense moving forward and we ask that you follow these basic guidelines:
- We normally ask that you refrain from touching your face during your float due to salt, but now there is an additional reason.
- As per regular procedure, it is mandatory for all float clients to shower at our facility before entering the float pod. Use as much soap as you need and please be sure to scrub and rinse thoroughly.
- If you’re feeling unwell, we’d kindly ask that you cancel or reschedule your appointment. We ask that you shoot us an email or give us a call as far in advance as possible, but there will be no cancellation fees charged until further notice.
- If you have travelled outside of Canada in the last 30 days please cancel or refrain from booking an appointment at this time.
- As much as you may want to high five after your float, please don’t! Leave a great review instead!
On top of this, the relationship between floatation therapy and improved immune function has been studied for decades. In a 1983 study, neuroendocrinologist John Turner and psychologist Thomas Fine showed that float therapy lowers epinephrine (adrenaline) and cortisol, two hormones that alter the immune systems operations. As journalist Micheal Hutchison wrote in “The Book of Floating”(check out our copy in our lounge), “High levels of cortisol have been linked to a number of ailments. They depress the body’s immune system [and] increase the effects of adrenaline on body tissues.”
So, as it turns out, floating could act as a preventative measure to helping the body fight off unwanted bugs, and just give you a reason to get out of the house and let the world slip away for a little bit.
As we monitor this pandemic closely, the health and safety of our community and our own staff is our top priority. Continue to take care of yourselves and each other!
